David ibnAle is a Founding Partner of Advance Venture Partners (“AVP”). AVP is a private investment firm that provides equity capital and strategic support to innovative technology, commerce and media businesses. The firm was founded in partnership with Advance Publications, a privately-owned media and technology holding company with a portfolio that includes Condé Nast, Charter Communications, Discovery Communications, and Reddit. AVP draws upon the domain expertise and intellectual capital that Advance Publications has developed as an owner and operator of businesses in these sectors for over 100 years.
Mr. ibnAle is a veteran technology investor with over twenty years of growth company investing experience. He manages all aspects of AVP’s investment activities, and leads the firm’s investment committee. He is currently a member of the boards of directors of Above Average Productions, Compass, HyTrust, Nativo, and UrbanSitter, and is also involved in AVP’s investments in EVRYTHNG and Mediamorph. Mr. IbnAle is also an independent director and former lead director of UCT Holdings (Nasdaq: UCTT). Prior to co-founding AVP, Mr. ibnAle was a Managing Director of TPG Growth, the growth equity and middle market investment platform of TPG, the global investment firm, where he led the firm’s technology investing practice. Prior to joining TPG Growth, he was a Partner at Francisco Partners, a technology-focused private equity investment firm. Mr. ibnAle began his investing career as an Associate at growth equity industry leader, Summit Partners.
Mr. ibnAle received A.B. and A.M. degrees from Stanford University, and received an M.B.A. from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He resides in San Francisco, CA with his wife, Mollie Ricker and their daughter, Tallulah Ale Ricker.
