Richard joined John Lewis straight from university on the graduate retail training scheme so to date is a ‘lifer’. He has had many roles across the organisation including managing stores, running Financial Services products, buying and most recently developing the retailer’s services business. In late 2016 he set up JLP Ventures as a Head of Business Development with a remit to rapidly test, develop and launch new propositions as part of the company’s diversification agenda. Prior to this latest role Richard was Head of Product Services responsible for the Department Store’s services propositions. Richard described himself as being at the intersection of strategy and execution believing that its critical to have these two in balance to make anything meaningful happen in business. He also has a pathological aversion to long PowerPoint decks.
