John Thrailkill

EVP of Technology & Business Development, The Container Store

When John Thrailkill applied for a full-time sales position at The Container Store in 1991, the recent college graduate had done his homework. He had researched a number of different companies, hoping to find an organization that he could learn from and that had an opportunity for growth and development. He chose The Container Store.

In his tenure with The Container Store, Thrailkill has held a variety of positions including marketing manager, store manager and served as one of the company’s first “Super Sales Trainers.”  In 2000, Thrailkill was named E-Business Marketing Director, where he led the development, launch and maintenance of the company’s website. As a then new channel of distribution for the company, the website reflected the company’s legendary customer service found in its stores around the country, as well as its mission to offer multifunctional products that save customers space and, ultimately, save them time.

In 2003, Thrailkill was named Vice President of Stores where his focus was entirely on management, staff development and consistent and thorough communication to and from the retailer’s stores and its home office. By 2012, Thrailkill assumed the role of Vice President of Store Systems, Customer Support & Business Development in which he was responsible for all store sales reporting and analysis, including financial and expense planning and reporting, store payroll and compensation programs.

In his current role as Executive Vice President of Technology & Business Development, Thrailkill is responsible for all technology strategy, initiatives and support, as well as Business to Business sales and support functions. Thrailkill is integral in the development and evolution of how technology supports our brand promise of great customer service. Working closely with each area of the business, he also ensures the companywide systems - current and future - provide tools for the stores and contact center to make even better decisions for the company and customers.

Thrailkill holds a Bachelor of Science in Communications from the University of Texas at Austin. He resides in his native Dallas, with his wife and two children.
